AN ACT to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
87-92.1, to authorize the Department of Mental Hygiene and Hospitals
to provide certain persons with drugs or medicines for treatment fol-
lowing their release from an institution under the control of such
Department.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
37-92.1, as follows:
§ 37-92.1. When any institution under the control of the Department
of Mental Hygiene and Hospitals releases a patient and such release is not
unconditional, the Department, if such patient or the person legally liable
for his care and treatment is financially unable to pay for drugs or med-
icines which are prescribed for him by a member of the staff of such in-
stitution in order to mitigate or prevent a recurrence of the condition for
which he has received care and treatment in such institution, may from
funds appropriated to the Department, provide such patient from time to
time with such drugs and medicines purchased by the Department as have
been so prescribed ; such medication shall only be dispensed under medical
supervision.
