An Act for the relief of the family of William Broadwell.

WHEREAS, the General Assembly of 1954 enacted legislation making
He empnten's Compensation Law applicable to sheriffs and their depu-
ies; an
WHEREAS, on April 10, 1954, prior to the effective date of the afore-
said legislation, William Broadwell, deputy sheriff of Giles County, while
serving a warrant in line of duty was shot by the son of the man whom
he sought to arrest and died shortly thereafter leaving a widow and three
small children; and
WHEREAS, it is proper that compensation be paid the family of this
deceased officer and the only way in which this can be done is by legis-
lation; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated from the general fund of the State
treasury the sum of fifteen hundred dollars to be paid to the widow of
William Broadwell in monthly installments in the amount of one hundred
fifty dollars, such payments to be made by the State treasurer on war-
rants drawn by the Comptroller issued on vouchers executed by the De-
partment of Welfare and Institutions. -
