An Act for the relief of Frank Shepard. — .
Approved March 31, 1956
WHEREAS, Frank Shepard, a deputy sheriff of the county of Nottoway,
attempted to serve a criminal warrant on one Otto Bradshaw who resisted
arrest and wounded Frank Shepard so seriously that the latter was hos-
pitalized and incurred bills in connection therewith to the extent of
$3030.00, which expenses were reduced by public contributions of ap-
proximately $750.00; and
WHEREAS, there is no way by which Frank Shepard can be recom-
for the aforesaid expenses and it is meet and proper that he should
; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated from the general fund of the State
treasury the sum of twenty-two hundred eighty dollars to be paid by the
State treasurer on warrants of the Comptroller to Frank Shepard, or his
assignee, in payment of expenses incurred by Frank Shepard as a result of
injury received while attempting to arrest Otto Bradshaw. No payment
shall be made unless a complete release be executed by any person receiv-
ing any portion of said payment.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
