An Act to repeal §§ 22-84 through 22-88.1 of the Code of Virginia, re-
lating to election of members of school boards in certain counties;
and to amend the Code of Virginia by adding sections numbered
22-88.1 and 22-83.2, relating to method of selection of school boards tn
such counties and cities.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: _
1. That §§ 22-84 through 22-88.1 of the Code of Virginia are repealed.
2. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding sections numbered
22-83.1 and 22-83.2 as follows:
§ 22-83.1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law the school
board of any county operating under Chapter 12 of Title 15 of the Code
shall be chosen as hereinafter set out. As the terms of the members of
such school board in office on the day this section becomes effective suc-
cessively expire, their successors shall be chosen by the governing body
of any such county for terms of four years; provided that such county
governing body shall have the power to fill vacancies occurring other
than by expiration of term for the unexpired term.
§ 22-83.2. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, general or
special, no school board shall be elected by popular vote in and for any
county or city.
