An Act to amend and reenact §§ 18-252 and 18-258 of the Code of
Virginia, relating to escape from custody of persons charged with
criminal offenses and providing penalties therefor. CHT 205]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 18-252 and 18-253 of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 18-252. If any person lawfully imprisoned in jail and not sen-
tenced on conviction of a criminal offense escape from jail by force or
violence, other than by setting fire thereto or if any person lawfully in
the custody of any police officer on a charge of criminal offense escape
from such custody by force or violence, he shall be confined in jail not
exceeding one year.
§ 18-258. If any person lawfully confined in jail or lawfully in the
custody of any law enforcement officer on a charge or conviction of a
criminal offense escape, otherwise than by force or violence or by setting
fire to the jail, he shall be confined in jail not exceeding six months.
