AN ACT to amend and reenact §§ 46-826 and 46-828, as amended, of the
Code of Virginia, relating to the width and length of vehicles and ex-
ceptions as to size.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 46-326 and 46-328, as amended, of the Code of Virginia be
amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 46-326. No vehicle shall exceed a total outside width, including
any load thereon, but excluding the mirror required by § 46-294, in excess
of ninety-six inches, excepting that a farm tractor shall not exceed one
hundred and eight inches and excepting, further, that the limitations as to
size of vehicles stated in this section and §§ 46-327 to 46-330 shall not
apply to implements of husbandry temporarily propelled or moved upon
the highway nor to fire fighting equipment of any county, city, town, or fire
fighting company or association. Provided, however, that upon application
by the board of supervisors or other governing body of any county having
a population of more than five thousand inhabitants per square mile, the
State Highway Commission may, by general or special order, which may be
amended or rescinded from time to time, permit the operation of passenger
buses in excess of ninety-six inches but not exceeding one hundred and two
inches on certain highways or parts thereof designated by the Commission
in such county and provided, however, passenger buses not exceeding a total
outside width of one hundred and two inches may be operated on the streets
of incorporated cities and towns when authorized * pursuant to § 46-198.
The Commissioner of the Division of Motor Vehicles is hereby authorized
to register and license such buses.
§ 46-328. No passenger bus shall exceed a length of thirty-five feet
and no other motor vehicle a length of thirty-five feet; provided, however,
the State Highway Commission may, by general or special order, which
may be amended or rescinded from time to time, increase the length of
passenger busses * to forty feet. The actual length of any combination
of vehicles coupled together shall not exceed a total of * fifty feet, *
including the load thereon; and no tolerance shall be allowed thereon;
provided, however, that the State Highway Commission in cases of emer-
gency may * issue a special permit for combinations in excess of * fifty
feet, * where the object or objects to be carried cannot be moved otherwise,
and provided, further, that passenger buses in excess of thirty-five feet
but not exceeding forty feet, may be.operated on the streets of incorporated
cities and towns when authorized pursuant to § 46-198. The Commissioner
of the Division of Motor Vehicles is hereby authorized to register and
license such buses.
