CHAPTER 427
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
24-118.12, providing for precinct registrars in certain counties, pro-
viding for transfer of certain records, and providing for the powers
and duties of such precinct registrars.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: .
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
24-118.12 as follows:
§ 24-118.12. In any county having a population of more than
twenty-five thousand but less than fifty thousand and entirely surrounding
a city having a population of more than twenty-five thousand but less than
fifty thousand, in addition to a general registrar, there shall be a registrar
for each electoral district to be appointed in accordance with § 24-52;
provided that no precinct registrar shall be appointed for any precinct
unless ten per centum and not more than fifty per centum of the voters
therein petition the county governing body therefor and such governing
body requests the county electoral board to appoint a registrar for such
precinct. Such precinct registrars shall have the powers and be subject
to the duties conferred or imposed by law upon precinct registrars.
Upon the appointment of a precinct registrar under this section the
general registrar shall send to that registrar copies of the names and
addresses of the registered voters of that precinct, together with all
records thereunto appertaining.. The precinct registrar may register
voters in his precinct and shall send the general registrar a list of the
names and addresses of voters who register before him. He shall maintain
a set of books containing the names and addresses of persons who are
registered by him.
2. This act shall be in force on and after December one, nineteen hundred
fifty-six.
