An Act to amend and reenact §§ 1 and 4 of Chapter 449 of the Acts of
Assembly of 1954, approved April 8, 1954, creating the Virginia
850th Anniversary Celebration Commission and to further amend
said chapter by adding thereto a new section numbered 9, the amended
and new section relating respectively to the terms of members of
the Commission; acquisition of land by the Commission so as to
provide it with the power of eminent domain; to provide for the
leasing of land by the Commission; and borrowing money for certain
purposes.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 1 and 4 of Chapter 449 of the Acts of Assembly of 1954,
approved April 3, 1954, be amended and reenacted and that said chapter
Pe further amended by adding thereto a new section numbered 9 as
ollows:
§ 1. There is hereby created the Virginia 350th Anniversary Com-
mission hereinafter referred to as Commission. The Commission shall be
composed of seventeen members appointed as follows: eight shall be
appointed by the Speaker of the House of hee es from the membership
thereof, four members shall be appointed by the President of the Senate
from the membership thereof, and five members shall be appointed by the
Governor from the State at large. All members shall be appointed for
terms to expire * June thirty, nineteen hundred fifty-eight. Vacancies may
be filled for the unexpired term. The Governor shall be Honorary Chair-
man of the Commission. The Commission shall name five of its members
to constitute an executive committee.
With the consent of the Governor first obtained, the Commis-
sion may lease, * purchase or acquire by condemnation proceedings lands,
property, and structures located in James City County in the vicinity of
Jamestown Island deemed necessary for the purposes of such celebration.
The title to property acquired shall be taken in the name of the Common-
wealth. In the exercise of the power of eminent domain granted under
this section, the Commission may proceed in the manner provided by law
for the State Highway Commissioner in §§ 38-57 through 38-75 of the
Code of Virginia. With the consent of the Governor first obtained, the
Commission may enter into such lease and may convey lease land to
any person, firm or corporation for such term and on suc conditions as
the Commission may determine.
§ 9. The Commission, acting by and through the corporation author-
ized by § 5 of this act, may contract debts and obligations to the extent
of its anticipated revenues. Such debts and obligations shall be paid only
from the revenues of the Commission or corporation.
