An Act to amend and reenact § 51-111.18, as amended, of the Code of
Virginia, relating to Members of the Board of Trustees of the Vir-
ginia Supplemental Retirement System. HT 296]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 51-111.18, as amended, of the Code of Virginia be amended
and reenacted as follows:
§ 51-111.18. The Board shall consist of five members to be appointed
by the Governor, subject to confirmation by the General Assembly. Of such
members one shall be a teacher, one a State employee and the others
neither teachers nor State employees nor otherwise in the employ of any
government. The first appointment hereunder shall be for terms as
follows; one for one year, one for two years, one for three years, and two
for four years. Thereafter all appointments shall be made for a term of
four years, except an appointment to fill a vacancy which shall be for the
unexpired term. No person shall be eligible to serve for or during more
than two successive four-year terms; but after the expiration of the re-

mainder of an unexpired term to which appointed, two additional four-
year terms may be served by such a member if appointed thereto. The
tncumbency, unless appointed to fill a vacancy, during the current term
when this amendment takes effect shall constitute the first of the two
successive four-year terms with respect to eligibility for appointment. The
Governor may suspend or remove any member at his pleasure. Such ap-
pointments shall confer upon and vest in the Board the powers and duties
of the Board of Trustees of the abolished system to the extent such powers
and duties were created or continued by the act abolishing the said sys-
tem, or by other legislation; thereupon the Board of Trustees of the
abolished system shall be terminated.
Each member of the Board shall receive as his compensation fifteen
dollars per day for each day actually spent in the discharge of his duties,
but no member shall receive as compensation in the aggregate more than
three hundred dollars in any one year. Members shall be reimbursed for
the expenses incurred by them in the performance of their duties.
