CHAPTER 298
An Act to require political subdivisions of the State to file certain informa-
tion with the Secretary of the Commonwealth; to provide for publica-
tion thereof; to prescribe the effect of such filing; to require the filing
of certain reports of audit with the Auditor of Public Accounts and to
provide for the preservation thereof. [8 138]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. Each county, city, and town, and each authority, commission,
district or other political subdivision of the State to which any money is
appropriated by the State or any county, city or town or which levies any
taxes or collects any fees or charges for the performance of public services
under authority of any statute or expends public moneys derived from
any revenue producing activity or derived from the State shall annually
on or before June thirty file with the Secretary of the Commonwealth,
on forms prescribed by him, a statement of its official title, its location,
the names of the members of its governing board or body and executive
officer, if any, and the statutory authority under which it was created.
The Secretary of the Commonwealth shall publish such information in his
annual report to the Governor. No public moneys shall be paid to or
received by any such authority, commission, district or other political
subdivision unless such information has been filed.
§ 2. Each authority, commission, district or other political sub-
division the members of whose governing body are not elected by popular
vote shall annually, within three months after the end of its fiscal year,
file with the Auditor of Public Accounts a copy of a report of audit cover-
ing its financial transactions for such fiscal year. The Auditor of Public
Accounts shall receive such reports and keep the same as public records
for a period of ten years from their receipt.
2. This act shall take effect on January 1, 1957.
