CHAPTER 94
An Act to authorize the governing bodies of certain counties to adopt
ordinances regulating the keeping of animals therein. fH 17]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. The governing body of any county which adjoins three or more
cities, one of which has a population in excess of two hundred thousand by
the last preceding United States census, shall have the power, whenever
in its judgment the same is necessary for the preservation of the public
health, to regulate by ordinance the keeping of animals or fowl, other
than dogs and cats, within a certain distance of residences or other huild-
ings or wells, springs, streams, creeks, or brooks, and to provide that all
or certain of such animals shall not be kept within certain areas, and to
provide for the punishment of violations of such ordinances as mis-
demeanors.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
