CHAPTER 691
An Act to amend and reenact §§ 24-55 and 24-77 of the Code of Virginia,
relating respectively to compensation of registrars and fees for regis-
tration on other than the regular day, and to amend the Code of Vir-
ginia by adding a section numbered 24-118.10, relating to compensa-
tion and fees of registrars of election districts in certain counties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 24-55 and 24-77 of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted, and that the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section
numbered 24-118.10, the amended and new sections being as follows:
24-55. Registrars shall receive as compensation for their services
the sum of * ten dollars each for each day’s service including the days
on which they are required by law to sit for the purpose of registering
persons applying to be registered. The governing body of any city, town
or county may supplement the compensation herein prescribed.
§ 24-77. For each name so registered on days other than the regular
days of registration he shall receive as compensation the sum of * thirty-
five cents in the counties, and in the cities and towns the sum of * twenty
cents, to be paid out of the treasury of the county, city or town as the
case may be; provided that, if the registrar be compensated by a salary
by or pursuant to a statute dispensing with the payment of any fees to
him, he shall not be paid any fee.
§ 24-118.10. Registrars appointed in any county subject to the pro-
visions of Chapter 410 of the Acts of Assembly of 1948 shall receive the
compensation provided for by §§ 24-55 and 24-77 and the provisions of
§§ 24-118.5 through 24-118.9 shall not be so construed as to permit the
abolition of the offices of registrars of the election districts of such county.
