An Act to amend the Code of Vérginia by adding a new section num-
bered § 14-155.8, to provide salaries and expenses for certain clerks;
to provide an appropriation therefor; and to repeal § 14-42, relating
to the salary of the clerk of the Circuit Court of the City of rier sat]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a new section num-
bered § 14-155.8, as follows:
§ 14-155.8. Notwithstanding any other provision of law in each city
of this Commonwealth having a circuit court with limited civil and
criminal jurisdiction and exclusive jurisdiction of all cases to which the
Commonwealth is a party defendant, and a separate clerk therefor, the
clerks of such courts shall be paid a salary at the rate of Six Thousand
Five Hundred Dollars per annum, exclusive of expenses authorized by the
Compensation Board.
Such salary shall be in full compensation for services and shall be in
lieu of the retention by such clerk of any and all official fees and com-
missions of whatever kind or character, and from whatever source
derived; and the payment of such salary shall be in equal monthly
installments. The expenses of office of such clerk, including office sup-
plies, equipment and compensation of deputies and employees shall be
paid out of the state treasury to each such clerk on duly authenticated
vouchers, when and as such expenses are incurred, or may become due
and payable, or at least monthly. The maximum amount of such expenses
shall be fixed by the State Compensation Board, and the Board shall fix
ne number and compensation of the deputies and employees of each such
officer.
All fees and commissions of every kind or character, whether pay-
able by the city, county, State, United States, or by private persons,
firms, associations or corporations, now and hereafter made receivable by
law by such clerk, shall continue to be paid to and collected by him, and
shall be paid into the State treasury monthly.
2. In order to carry out the purpose of this act, there is hereby appro-
priated out of the general fund of the State treasury, a sum sufficient.
3. § 14-42 of the Code of Virginia is repealed.
