An Act to amend and reenact § 8-888, as amended, of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to liens on real estate of decrees for alimony and for
maintenance, support and education of infant children of parties to
a divorce proceeding.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 8-388, as amended, of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 8-388. In a decree for alimony or for sums for the maintenance,
support and education of infant children of the parties payable in future
installments the court may provide that such payments shall not be a
lien on the real estate of the person required to make such payments, or
may designate the real estate on which the sum shall be a lien; or subse-
quently on petition release such lien for alimony or for such sums for
the maintenance, support and education of infant children whether here-
tofore accrued by virtue of any decree entered prior to July first, nineteen
hundred fifty, or to accrue thereafter. Such decree shall not be a hen on
real estate until and except from the time that an abstract thereof ts
duly docketed and indexed in the judgment lien docket book in the clerk’s
office of the city or county wherein deeds conveying real estate are
recorded.
