Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding the section numbered
37-48.1 as follows:
§ 37-48.1. The State Hospital Board, under such regulations as the
Administrator of the Federal Security Agency may prescribe and with the
approval of the Governor, may be appointed or function as the agency to
which payments under the Old Age and Survivors Insurance provisions
of the Federal Social Security Act as amended may be made on behalf of
any beneficiary patients in an institution under its control. Such payments
shall be expended for the use and benefit of such patient, to whom they
would otherwise be payable, and the residue, if any, resulting from such
payments shall be set aside in a special fund to the credit of the patient on
whose account such payment is made. The charges provided for by law for
the care of patients in any such institutions shall be defrayed from such
payment. The provisions of § 37-49 shall apply to any payments received
under this section.
