CHAPTER 382
An Act to amend and reenact § 42 of Chapter 548 of the Acts of Assem-
bly of 1952, approved April 8, 1952, which provided a new charter
for the town of Smithfield, relating to the town member of the
county school board.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 42 of Chapter 548 of the Acts of Assembly of nineteen hun-
dred fifty-two, approved April 3, nineteen hundred fifty-two, be amended
and reenacted as follows:
§ 42. For the purpose of representation on the county school board,
the town of Smithfield shall constitute a separate school district. One
member of the county school board shall be elected * quadrennially on *
July first by the town council for a term of * four years or until his
successor is elected and qualified. The present town school board member
shall continue in office until * July one, nineteen hundred and fifty-*four,
or until his successor is elected and qualified.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
CHAPTER 382
An Act to require approval, under certain conditions by the governing
body of a county for the establishment or extension of certain sewer
systems therein; to prescribe conditions under which such systems
may be established or extended in event of failure of such governing
body to act; and to prescribe penalties for violations. rH 5661
