CHAPTER 302
An Act to authorize the governing bodies of certain counties, subject to
the supervision of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Immigration,
to provide for the inspection of meat; sail to provide how the
expenses thereof shall be paid.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. The governing body of any county having a population of more
than eighty thousand and adjoining at least three cities two of which
have a population in excess of eighty thousand, or of any county having
a population of more than thirty-four thousand and less than thirty-five
thousand, may by ordinance provide for the inspection and supervision
of slaughter houses producing meat for human consumption and may
further provide for the inspection of meat intended for human consump-
tion prepared at any such slaughter house located within the county.
§ 2. No such county shall exercise any power conferred by this act
unless and until it has satisfied the Commissioner of Agriculture and
Immigration that it will apply and enforce the same standards which the
Department of Agriculture and Immigration enforces in the case of
slaughter houses and the inspection of meat intended for human consump-
tion. All inspectors employed by the county to enforce any ordinance
adopted under the provisions of this act shall be employed subject to the
approval of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Immigration who shall
satisfy himself as to their competence to discharge such duties.
§ 3. All expenses incurred in the enforcement of any ordinance
adopted under the provisions hereof shall be paid by the county adopting
such ordinance and enforcing the same.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
