DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE

20.01. There shall be a department of public welfare which shall
consist of a superintendent of public welfare and such employees as may
be provided by ordinance.

20.02. Duties.—The department of public welfare shall be responsible
for the duties imposed by the laws of the Commonwealth relating to public
assistance and relief of the poor, and shall perform such other powers
and duties as may be assigned to the department by law or ordinance.

20.08. Contractual Relationships.—The City of Galax, at the option
of the council, may enter into contractual relationships with neighboring
political subdivisions for the administration of public aid and assistance,
and the care, maintenance and support of the aged, indigent, and infirm.
