An Act to amend and reenact §§ 29-188.1 and 29-194.1 of the Code of
Virginia, relating to certain requirements for licensing dogs in cer-
tain political subdivisions.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 29-188.1 and 29-194.1 of the Code of Virginia be amended
and reenacted as follows:
§ 29-188.1 In any county, city or town the governing body of which
has adopted an ordinance requiring dogs to be inoculated or vaccinated
for rabies, no license tag shall be issued for any dog unless there is pre-
sented, to the treasurer or other officer of the city charged by law with
the duty of issuing license tags for dogs at the time application for
license is made, evidence satisfactory to him showing that such dog has
been, within the time and as prescribed by such * ordinance, inoculated
or vaccinated against rabies.
§ 29-194.1. The governing body of any county or city may cause
to be constructed and maintained a pound or enclosure of a type to be
approved by the county or city health department and to require dogs
running at large without the tag required by § 29-191 to be confined
therein. Such governing body may require that any dog which has been
so confined for a period of * five days and has not been claimed by the
owner thereof shall be destroyed or otherwise disposed of by the game
warden of such county or city. Any ordinance providing for the above
shall be effective upon passage.
