CHAPTER 13
An Act to amend Chapter 184 of the Acts of Assembly of 1988, approved
March 18, 1988, which incorporated the town of Manassas, in the
county of Prince William, by adding sections numbered 29-a and 29- b,
providing for a justice of the peace for the Town and providing for
the compensation of persons acting as justice of the peace or as trial
justice for the town.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That Chapter 184 of the Acts of Assembly of 1938, approved March
be 1938, be amended by adding sections numbered 29-9 and 29-b as
ollows:
§ 29-a. (a) The council may appoint or cause to be appointed a
justice of the peace for the town who shall hold office during the pleasure
of the council. He shall be entitled to the same fees when taxed and
collected, and shall be limited to the same maximum compensation, as a
justice of the peace for the county.
The justice of the peace for the town may at any time be removed
from office by a majority vote of the council. Upon his death, removal or
resignation, the council may appoint or cause to be appointed a successor
to hold office during the pleasure of the council.
The justice of the peace for the town shall be a conservator of the
peace for the town, and within one mile of its corporate limits. He shall
be vested with jurisdiction, concurrent with the mayor, or vice-mayor,
to issue warrants for violations of town ordinances, acts and resolutions,
admit accused persons to bond, and fix the amount thereof, or remand
them to jail pending trial; and he shall be vested with all the jurisdiction
or authority within the town and within one mile of its corporate limits,
under the ordinances, acts and resolutions of the town council, with which
justices of the peace for the county are vested under the laws of the Com-
monwealth of Virginia.
§ 29-b. The mayor or vice-mayor, when acting as a justice of the
peace or trial justice, shall receive for his services the fees chargeable by
a justice of the peace or trial justice for the county when such fees are
taxed and collected.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
