Approved April 8, 1952
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 19-23 as amended and 32-336 of the Code of Virginia be
amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 19-23. Upon receipt of such notice the coroner shall take charge of
the dead body, make inquiries regarding the cause and manner of death,
reduce his findings to writing, and promptly make a full report thereof to
the Chief Medical Examiner on forms prescribed for such purpose, retain-
ing one copy of such report for his own and delivering another copy to
the Commonwealth’s attorney of his county or city. Full directions as
to the nature, character and extent of the investigation to be made in such
cases shall be furnished the coroner by the Chief Medical Examiner,
together with appropriate forms for the required reports and instructions
for their use. For each investigation under this chapter, including the
making of the required reports, the coroner shall receive a fee of ten
dollars, this to be paid by the * State, unless the deceased is a legal resident
of the county, city or town where his death occurred.
§ 32-336. Each local registrar shall be paid the sum of fifty cents for
each birth certificate, each death certificate, and each stillbirth certificate
properly made out and registered with him, correctly recorded and
promptly returned by him to the State Registrar, as required by this
chapter, and in case no births, deaths or stillbirths were registered during
any month, the local registrar shall be entitled to be paid the sum of fifty
cents for a report to that effect, but only if properly made, in accordance
with this chapter. |
All amounts payable to a registrar under the provisions of this
section shall be paid by the * State, unless the deceased or the parent or
parents of the child is a legal resident of the county, city or town where
the birth or death occurred. The State Registrar shall annually certify
to the * Comptroller of the State the number of births and deaths
properly registered, with the names of the local registrars and the amount
due each at the rate fixed herein, * and the Comptroller shall issue a war-
rant on the State Treasurer for the amount due payable to the local regis-
trar.
