An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding thereto a section num-
bered 58-404.01, relating to the license taxation of livestock dealers.
[H 736]
Approved April 4, 1952
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding thereto a section
numbered 58-404.01, as follows:
§ 58-404.01. Livestock dealers——Any person, firm or corporation
who or which is engaged in the business of a livestock dealer, buying live-
stock for resale and selling such livestock on his or its own account, whether
at wholesale or at retail, may, in lieu of taking out any other revenue license
to cover such business, take out a license under this section. The tax on
such license shall be as follows: If the amount of sales throughout the then
next preceding calendar year did not exceed ten thousand dollars, the
amount shall be twenty dollars; when such sales exceeded ten thousand
dollars the amount shall be twenty dollars on the first ten thousand dollars
of sales and three cents on every one hundred dollars upon all in excess of
ten thousand dollars. For the purpose of ascertaining the tax to be paid
by any such livestock dealer beginning business, he shall estimate the
sales which he will make between the date of the issuance of the license
and the thirty-first of December following. Any livestock dealer holding
a license under this section may peddle such livestock under such license
in the county or city in which it is issued without taking out a peddler’s
icense.
This section shall be effective on and after January first, nineteen
hundred and fifty-three.
