An Act for the relief of James S. Craig, Sr.

Whereas, on September 22, 1950, one William Green, being then a
patient confined in the Central State Hospital at Petersburg, Virginia,
escaped therefrom under circumstances not fully explained, broke into the
home of James S. Craig, Sr., at 1050 Paxton Street, Portlock, Norfolk
county, and there robbed and assaulted him causing his hospitalization;

Whereas, Mr. Craig has incurred expenses in the amount of seven
hundred sixty-one dollars and fifty cents as the direct result of such
robbery and assault; and
Whereas, no relief can be had from other sources and it is only fair
and just under the circumstances to grant relief to him; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated from the general fund of the State
Treasury the sum of seven hundred sixty-one dollars and fifty cents to
be paid James S. Craig, Sr., on warrant of the Comptroller drawn on
the State Treasurer as compensation for his loss, and the State Treas-
urer shall pay the same as provided by law.
The amount to be paid herein shall be in lieu of any and all claims
that James S. Craig, Sr., his heirs, successors, or assigns, ever had, now
have, or ever shall have as a result of the injury and robbery of the
said James S. Craig, Sr., by William Green on September twenty-two,
nineteen hundred fifty. As a prerequisite to receipt of the funds herein
appropriated to James S. Craig, Sr., the said James S. Craig, Sr., shall
execute a full release and satisfaction for all claims against the Common-
wealth of Virginia, the Central State Hospital and all officers and em-
ployees thereof.
