CHAPTER 593

An Act to amend and reenact § 22-48 of the Code of Virginia, relating

' to election of chairman and clerk of school boards of counties, cities
and towns. .

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 22-48 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
follows:

§ 22-48. At the first annual meeting of the school board of any
county, city or town it shall elect one of its members chairman and on
recommendation of the division superintendent, elect or appoint a com-
petent person as clerk of the school board, and shall fix his compensation.
However, the school board may, in its discretion, elect the division super-
intendent to serve as clerk. The chairman and clerk shall be selected
annually.
