An Act to amend Title 2 of the Code of Virginia by adding a section
numbered 2-20.1, relating to permissive Saturday closing by banks
in certain cities.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That Title 2 of the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section
numbered 2-20.1 as follows:
§ 2-20.1. It shall be lawful for any bank as defined in § 6-6, includ-
ing national banking associations and federal reserve banks, located in
a city of this State having a population in excess of two hundred
thousand according to the latest preceding United States census, or
located in a city any portion of which city is within five miles of a
city of said size, whether within or without this State or located in a
city of the State having a population of more than forty-five thousand and
not more than fifty thousand according to the latest preceding United
States Census, or in any city having a population of more than twelve
thousand two hundred but not more than twelve thousand three hundred
fifty, to permit any one or more or all its offices located in such a city
to remain closed on any one or more or all Saturdays, as the bank, by
resolution of its board of directors, may from time to time determine. Any
Saturday on which an office of’ a bank shall remain closed, as herein
permitted, shall, as to such office, constitute a legal holiday, and any
act authorized, required or permitted to be performed at, by or with
respect to any such office on a Saturday on which the office is so closed,
may be performed on the next succeeding business day and no liability or
loss of rights of any kind shall result from such delay.
