CHAPTER 546
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a new section to be
numbered 54-790.1, to provide an annual registration fee to be paid
by all persons authorized to practice veterinary medicine or surgery;
the amount thereof; penalties for nonpayment; and exemptions.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
54-790.1, as follows:
§ 54-790.1. Every person authorized by this chapter to practice
veterinary medicine or surgery shall on January first of each and every
year pay to the secretary of the Board an annual registration fee to be
fixed by the Board from time to time at not less than one dollar nor more
than five dollars and the secretary shall issue his receipt therefor in such
form as may be prescribed by the Board; provided, however, that no
person shall be required to pay such registration for the calendar year in
which he shall first receive his certificate to practice veterinary medicine
or surgery, and provided further that any person so authorized to practice
veterinary medicine or surgery who shall certify to the Board that he is
not actively engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine or surgery as
defined in § 54-786 and will not so engage in such practice during the
whole of any calendar year for which such registration fee is payable shall
be exempt from the payment of such fee for so long as he shall not engage
in such practice, but such fee shall not in any event be prorated. The
Board may in the manner provided in this chapter revoke the certificate
of any person who is not exempted from payment of such registration fee
and who shall in any year fail to pay the same on or before January
thirty-first, but any such certificate so revoked shall be reinstated without
examination upon payment of all annual registration fees in default. The
fees so collected shall be applied as provided by § 54-789.
