An Act for the relief of T. H. Lillard, and to repeal Chapter 275 of the
Acts of Assembly of 1950, relating to the same matter. 1H

Whereas, the State Department of Highways changed a portion of
the course of the Rapidan River in Madison County and subsequent thereto,
in April, 1949, during a heavy rain the river, due to the change of course,
flooded the property of T. H. Lillard, washing away his private bridge
and destroying one acre of valuable lowlands; and
Whereas, the State Highway Department and T. H. Lillard have
agreed as to the damages caused by the act of the Department in changing
the course of the river, such damage amounting to fifteen hundred dollars ;
Now, Therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated out of the funds in the State treasury
available for the construction and maintenance of the secondary highway
system of Madison County the sum of fifteen hundred dollars for the
relief of T. H. Lillard, and the Comptroller is directed to draw his warrant
on the State Treasurer for such amount payable to T. H. Lillard, and
the State Treasurer shall pay the same as provided by law.
The warrant shall be delivered to T. H. Lillard contemporaneously
upon his executing a proper release acknowledging receipt of the above
sum in full satisfaction of any and all claims which he may have against
the Commonwealth of Virginia by reason of the foregoing.
2. Chapter 275 of the Acts of Assembly, relating to the same matter,
is repealed.
