An Act. to amend and reenact § 36 of the Acts of Assembly of 1942,
approved April 7, 1942, providing a charter for the city of Fred-
ericksburg, and which section relates to liens of real estate i? tastes.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 36 of the Acts of Assembly of 1942, approved April 7, 1942,
be amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 36. There shall be a lien on real estate and on each and every
interest therein for the city taxes as assessed thereon from the commence-
ment of the year for which they are assessed. The council may require
real estate in the city, delinquent for nonpayment of city taxes, to be sold
for said taxes, with interest thereon at the rate of six per centum per
annum, and such per centum as the council may prescribe for expenses.
Such real estate may ‘be sold and may be redeemed in the manner pro-
vided by law, provided that any such sale, where no persons bid the
amount chargeable on any such real estate, it shall be lawful for the
treasurer to purchase the same for the benefit of the city upon the same
terms and conditions prescribed by general law for the purchase of delin-
quent real estate by treasurers for the benefit of the State and city or
town, respectively.
