CHAPTER 69
AN ACT to amend and reenact § 46-216 of the Code of 1950 relating
to speed limits, so as to exempt all ambulances therefrom in
emergenctes.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 46-216 of the Code of 1950 be amended and reenacted a:
follows:
§ 46-216. Speed limits not applicable to certain vehicles under
certain circumstances.—The speed limitations set forth in this
chapter shall not apply to vehicles when operated with due regard
for safety under the direction of the police in the chase or appre-
hension of violators of the law or of persons charged with or sus-
pected of any such violations, nor to:fire department vehicles when
traveling in response to a fire alarm or pulmotor call, nor to *
ambulances when traveling in emergencies outside the corporate
limits of citics and towns. This exemption shall not protect the
driver of any such vehicle from the consequences of a reckless dis-
regard of the safety of others.
