CHAPTER 537

AN ACT to amend Chapter 163 of the Acts of Assembly of 1875,
entitled “An Act to Provide a Charter for the City of Peters-
burg’, approved March 11, 1875, as amended, by adding a sec-
tion in Chapter IV thereof, numbered § 2-d, conferring a gen-
eral power of taration upon the city of Petersburg, subject to
certain limitations.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That Chapter 163 of the Acts of Assembly of 1875, as amended,
be amended by adding in Chapter IV thereof, a section numbered
§ 2-d as follows:

§ 2-d. Subject only to the limitations imposed by the Consti-
tution and laws of the United States and by the Constitution and
laws of the Commonwealth, there is hereby conferred upon the city
of Petersburg, with respect to subjects of taxation within the city,
the general power of taxation not inconsistent with the Constitu-
tion and general laws of the Commonwealth.
