CHAPTER 525
AN ACT to direct the Virginia Advisory Legislative Council to
study certain statutes relating to the seafood industry; and
to appropriate funds.

Whereas, the steady decline in the seafood fisheries has
reached such alarming proportions that those interested therein
fear the ultimate decline and loss of this industry; and
Whereas, this industry supports a majority of those living
in rural areas in Tidewater Virginia; and
Whereas, measures should be taken to ascertain what steps,
if any, can he taken to remedy the decline in our seafood indus-
try; Now, Therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. The Virginia Advisory Legislative Council is directed
to make a thorough study of all laws, rules and regulations con-
cerning the administrative organization and operations of the
Commission of Fisheries, and the Virginia Fisheries Laboratory
and its relation to the Commission and the industry.
§ 2. The Council shall associate with it in its study such
number of persons and organizations as will afford a complete
representation of all areas of interest in Tidewater Virginia in
the seafood industry and shall give due representation to all
branches of the seafood industry.
§ 3. The Council shall complete its study and make its
report to the Governor and General Assembly not later than
september one, nineteen hundred fifty-one.
2. In order to provide the Council with the necessary funds
to make the study herein directed to be made, there is hereby ap-
propriated to the Virginia Advisory Legislative Council out of
the special funds in the State treasury derived from the seafood
industry the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars, and the Comp-
troller and Treasurer are directed to transfer the same, or so
much thereof as may be necessary, to the credit of the Virginia
Advisory Legislative Council to be by it expended as herein
provided.
