CHAPTER 51

AN ACT to transfer the jurisdiction and control of certain par-
cels of land through and along Catawba Sanatorium, in
Roanoke County, from the State Board of Health to the
State Highway Commission, and to authorize the latter
agency to use the said parcels of land as a part of State
Highway Route No. 311.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the jurisdiction and control of those two certain par-
cels of land hereinafter described, lying and being situate in
Roanoke County and along and through the Catawba Sana-
torium, be and the same are hereby transferred from the State
Board of Health to the State Highway Commission, which is
hereby authorized to use and maintain the same as a part of
State Highway Route No. 311. Said parcels of land lie on either
side of the survey and plan centerline of said highway, and are
located and are of the widths and areas as shown on sheets Nos.
14 and 15 of plans for Route No. 311, Project No. 1238-A, on
file in the office of the Department of Highways, at Richmond;
the said parcels of land being described as follows:

PARCEL NO. 1: Lying on the south side of the said cen-
terline and being 0.0 ft. in width at a point in the east property
line of Catawba Sanatorium and west property line of Gardinier,
at a point 85 ft. from said centerline at sta. 435-+-55; widening
with said line to 60 ft. and becoming adjacent to said centerline
at sta. 486+-00; leaving said line and continuing adjacent to
said centerline and narrowing to 40 ft. at sta. 437+-00, and eon-
tinuing 40 ft. in width to sta. 448-+-87.97; widening to 65 ft. at
sta. 4444-50 (sta. 444+-15.84 ahead—444+4-16.44 back) ; narrow-
ing to 40 ft. at sta. 4454-50; widening to 55 ft. at sta. 446+31.26;
narrowing to 40 ft. at sta. 448+-87.01, and continuing 40 ft. in
width to sta. 458+27.93; widening to 55 ft. at sta. 455-+-00;
narrowing to 40 ft. at sta. 455--84.38, and continuing 40 ft. in
width to sta. 457+-00; widening to 70 ft. at sta. 4564-00 (sta.
457-+56.47 back—455-++-17.5 ahead) ; narrowing to 40 ft. at sta.
456++50, and continuing 40 ft. in width to sta. 458+-00; widen-
ing to 70 ft. at sta. 459-50; narrowing to 40 ft. at sta. 460-++50;
widening to 55 ft. at sta. 463-++00; narrowing to 40 ft. at sta.
4644-50, and continuing 40 ft. in width to sta. 468-+-60.53; wid-
ening to 70 ft. at sta. 472+-00; narrowing to 40 ft. in width to
sta. 468-+-60.53; widening to 70 ft. at sta. 4724-00; narrowing
to 40 ft. at sta. 475+-00, and continuing 40 ft. in width to a point
in the north property line of Catawba Sanatorium and south
property line of Carroll at sta. 4864-20; leaving said centerline
and narrowing with said line to 32 ft. at a point in the west
property line of Catawba Sanatorium and east property line of
Morgan at a point 8 ft. from said centerline at sta. 486+-70; and
narrowing with the last two lines to 0.0 ft. at a point 10 ft. from
said centerline at sta. 486+-95.

PARCEL NO. 2: Lying on the north side of and adjacent
to said centerline and being 0.0 ft. in width at a point in the east
property line of Catawba Sanatorium and west property line of
Gardinier at sta. 436+-00; widening with said line and the line
of Gleeson to 40 ft. at sta. 486+35 and continuing 40 ft. in
width to sta. 487+-00; widening to 65 ft. at sta. 487-++35, and
continuing 65 ft. in width to sta. 437-++-85; narrowing to 40 ft. at
sta. 438+-10, and continuing 40 ft. in width to sta. 488-+-92.91 ;
widening to 95 ft. at sta. 440+-50; narrowing to 40 ft. at sta.
441+-00, and continuing 40 ft. in width to sta. 457+-00 (sta
444+15.84 ahead—444--16.44 back) widening to 100 ft. at sta
455-+50 (sta. 457-+-56.47 back—455+17.5 ahead); narrowing
to 40 ft. at sta.457+50; widening to 115 ft. at sta. 460-++-00
narrowing to 50 ft. at sta. 461-00; narrowing to 40 ft. at sta.
4644-00; widening to 50 ft. at sta. 466-50; narrowing to 40 ft.
at sta. 468-++-60.53, and continuing 40 ft. in width to sta. 470-+-50;
widening to 60 ft. at sta. 473+-00; narrowing to 40 ft. at sta.
4754-00, and continuing 40 ft. in width to a point in the north
property line of Catawba Sanatorium and south property line
of Carroll opposite sta. 484+-20; and narrowing with said line
to 0.0 ft. at sta. 486-+-20.

The said parcels of land contain 11.62 acres, more or less.
2. An emergency existing, this Act shall be in force from its
passage.
