CHAPTER 492

AN ACT to amend Chapter 45 of the Acts of Assembly of 1948, ap-
proved February 27, 1943, which authorized the establishment
of retirement systems in certain counties, by adding a section
numbered 8-a, providing an alternative method for the creation
and payment of retirement benefits in such counties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That Chapter 45 of the Acts of Assembly of 1948, approved
March 27, 1948, be amended by adding a section numbered 8-a, as
follows:

§ 8-a. Notwithstanding any other provision of this act, the
governing body of the county, if it deems proper, may use the
amounts now or hereafter in the treasury of the county to the
credit of any such retirement system for the purchase of retire-
ment or other like benefit from any insurance company authorized
to do business in this State. The governing body of the county
Shall prescribe the benefits which may be payable under any such
retirement contracts so purchased.

2. An emergency exists and this act is in force ‘rom its passage.
