CHAPTER 450
AN ACT to provide certain benefits for retired former State em-
ployees and teachers; and to appropriate funds.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Any State employee or teacher who has retired, or who retires,
before July one, nineteen hundred fifty, and who was a member of
the Virginia Retirement System shall, after such date, be entitled
to receive and shall be paid the same allowances that he would
have been entitled to receive had he retired on or after July one,
nineteen hundred fifty ; provided that this section shall not operate
to extend his period of creditable or membership service. Each
such person shall have his service retirement allowance or dis-
ability retirement allowance as the case may be computed as if he
had retired under the Virginia Retirement Act as amended and
in force on July one, nineteen hundred fifty. The difference be-
tween the amount each such former member has been receiving and
what he will receive as provided herein, shall be paid from funds
appropriated for such purpose. No such retired member shall be
paid any increase because of thig section for any period prior to
July one, nineteen hundred fifty.
2. There is hereby appropriated out of the zeneral fund of the
State treasury for each year of the biennium beginning July one,
nineteen hundred fifty, the sum of sixty-five thousand dollars on
account of retired State employees and the sum of eighty-five
thousand dollars on account of retired teachers which shall be
transferred to the credit of the Virginia Retirement System, and
expended as in this act provided. After the end of each fiscal year
of the biennium any amounts paid out under this act on account
of former employees retired under the Virginia Retirement Act
whose salaries before retirement had been paid by special fund
departments shall be determined by the Retirement System and
certified to the Comptroller who shall transfer such amounts from
the special funds involved to the general fund.
3. This act shall become effective July one, nineteen hundred
fifty.
