CHAPTER 421
AN ACT to authorize the conveyance of certain property of the
State to the town of Farmville; to prescribe the terms and
conditions thereof; and to authorize the expenditure of cer-
tain funds.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. The State Board of Education is hereby authorized and
empowered to transfer and convey, by proper deed or deeds signed
and executed by such person or persons as shall be authorized by
the board, and in the name of the Commonwealth of Virginia—
Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia, to the town of Farmville
for use as a public street or highway, a certain tract or parcel of
land situated in the town of Farmville, County of Prince Edward,
and more particularly described as follows:
Beginning at an iron pin on the property line between Nannie
Dean et al. and the property of Longwood College, thence north
five degrees twenty-nine minutes forty-five seconds west along the
east side of Pine Street, a distance of fifty feet, to an iron pin,
thence north eighty-four degrees thirty minutes fifteen seconds east
two hundred ninety-five and twenty-five one-hundredths feet to an
iron pin on the west side of Spruce Street, thence south five degrees
twenty-nine minutes forty-five seconds east along the west side of
Spruce Street for a distance of fifty feet to an iron pin, thence
south eighty-four degrees thirty minutes fifteen seconds west two
hundred ninety-five and twenty-five one-hundredths feet to an iron
pin, the point of beginning.
§ 2. The transfer and conveyance herein authorized shall be
made in consideration of the closing of Race Street between Madi-
son and Chambers Streets and Race Street between Chambers and
High Street, adjacent to the property of Longwood College, and in
further consideration of a payment to the town of Farmville of an
amount sufficient to cover costs involved in opening the new street,
not to exceed eight thousand four hundred dollars, such amount
to be paid from the unexpended balance of funds appropriated to
the college for the purchase of property, subject to approval by the
State Board of Education.
§ 3. The conveyance herein authorized to be made shall be
subject to approval by the Governor and the deed therefor shall
be prepared by the Attorney General.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
