AN ACT to amend and reenact § 46-306 of the Code of 1950,
relating to muffler cutouts and similar devices, so as to

prohibit the sale and use or offering for sale thereof.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 46-306 of the Code of 1950 be amended and re-
enacted as follows:
§ 46-306. Muffler cutout, etc., illegal—It shall be unlawful
to sell or offer for sale a muffler without interior baffle plates or
other effective muffling device, commonly called “gutted muffler’,
“muffler cutout” or “straight exhaust” or for any motor vehicle
to be equipped with or for any person to use such a “gutted
muffler’, “muffler cutout” or “straight exhaust” while such
motor vehicle is being operated upon a highway.
