CHAPTER 31

AN ACT to amend and reenact § 37-97 of the Code of 1950, relating
to arrest of escapees from any hospital for the insane or colony
for the feeble-minded so as to make the issuance of a warrant
of arrest mandatory.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 37-97 of the Code of 1950 be amended and reenacted,
as follows:

§ 37-97. Arrest and confinement after escape.—If any person
confined in any hospital or colony escape therefrom, the superin-
tendent * shall forthwith issue a warrant directed to any officer
authorized to make arrests *, who shall arrest such escaped person
and carry him back to the hospital or colony or to such other place
as is designated by the superintendent of the hospital or colony,
there to be delivered to the superintendent or his authorized agent,
and the officer to whom the warrant is directed may execute the
same in any part of the Commonwealth.
