AN ACT to amend the Code of 1950 by adding a new section num-
bered 56-261.1, providing for the furnishing of certain serv-
ices by public service corporations in certain counties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of 1950 be amended by adding a new section
numbered 56-261.1, as follows:
§ 56-261.1. In any county adjoining a county within this
State having, according to the last preceding United States Cen-
sus, a population in excess of two thousand per square mile,
every public service corporation engaged in the business of fur-
nishing water or sewerage facilities to any city, incorporated
town or other community therein (whether or not such busi-
ness is conducted under or by virtue of a municipal franchise)
shall furnish at all times and at a reasonable charge a supply
of water, a system of distribution or disposal, and services and
facilities incidental to such supply, distribution, or disposal suffi-
cient and adequate for the protection of the health of the in-
habitants of the community; and any such water company,
which has adequate lines therefor in said county, shall furnish
a supply of water adequate for proper fire protection within any
such city, town or other community served by the mains of
such corporation.
