AN ACT to amend and reenact § 58-876 of the Code of 1950, so
as to provide for different license taxes for engineers and
to make presentation of certification of professional regis-
tration prerequisite to issuance of the license. rH1794

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 58-876 of the Code of 1950 be amended and re-
enacted, as follows:
§ 58-376. Engineers; ceramic, chemical, civil, coal min-
ng, electrical, heating and ventilating, highway, industrial,
nechanical, metallurgical, mining, railway, radio, refrigerating,
sanitary, steam power, structural.—Any person not exempted
from the provisions of Title 54 Chapter 8 of the Code of Vir-
yinia of 1950, who shall for compensation engage in the business
f ceramic, chemical, civil, coal mining, electrical, heating and
ventilating, highway, industrial, mechanical, metallurgical, min-
ng, railway, radto, refrigerating, sanitary, steam power, struc-
ural engineering and any other professional engineer, shall pay
a revenue license tax of fifteen dollars per year for the privilege
of conducting such business; provided, that the license of any
engineer who has not practiced his profession for more than
five years or whose income from such business was less than five
hundred dollars for the preceding year shall be five dollars; and
provided, further, that on the payment of the license as herein
provided the engineer shall be entitled to engage in such busi-
ness in any part of this State.
No license hereunder shall be issued to any person desiring
to practice engineering in this State unless such person exhibit
a certificate or other evidence showing that the applicant 1s cer-
tified to practice as an engineer by the State Board for the
Examination and Certification of Architects, Professional E'ngi-
neers and Land Surveyors.
This section, as hereby amended, shall be in force for the
license year nineteen hundred and fifty one, and for every license
year thereafter.
