Chap. 549.—An ACT to authorize the State Board of Education in its dis-
cretion, to sponsor and supervise certain educational practices and procedures in
Hanover County; to appropriate funds to carry out the purposes of this act,
and to repeal Chapter 19, as amended, of the Acts of Assembly of 1945,
approved March 29, 1945, relating to like matters. {H 473 3]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Section 1. The State Board of Education is authorized, in its
discretion, to sponsor and supervise an educational program in Hanover
County for the purpose of studying and developing educational practices
that give reasonable promise of increasing the effectiveness and efficiency
of public education.
Section 2. In carrying out the purposes of this act the State Board
of Education shall have for the Hanover County school division, the
authority conferred upon the State Board by the General Assembly and
by the Constitution in all questions involving educational procedures
and standards and the conduct and management of the schools, and may
make such changes under such authority as may be recommended by
the Superintendent of Public Instruction, provided the proposed changes
have been approved by the division superintendent of schools, the
Hanover County school board and the board of supervisors for Hanover
Count
Section 3. Nothing in this act shall affect the right of Hanover
County to share alike with other counties and cities in State school
funds, and local tax levies and appropriations.
Section 4. In order to provide funds to carry out the provisions of
this act there is hereby appropriated to the State Board of Education,
out of the general fund in the State treasury, the sum of twenty thousand
dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, the funds hereby ap-
propriated to be available for use as and if needed during the school years
nineteen hundred forty-eight-nineteen hundred forty-nine and nineteen
hundred forty-nine-nineteen hundred fifty.
2. Chapter nineteen of the Acts of Assembly of nineteen hundred
forty-five, approved March twenty-nine, nineteen hundred forty-five, and
all amendments thereto are repealed.
