Chap. 404.—An ACT for the Relief of Mrs."Mont Gilbert. {H 143]

Whereas, William Neil Gilbert of Roanoke County, Virginia, was
on February 25, 1946, a paying patient in the hospital of the Medical
College of Virginia, and was recovering nicely following an operation
due to the surgical skill and tender care he had been receiving from
the doctors and employees of the said hospital, when through the negli-
gence of one of the employees of the hospital he was caused to suffer a
sudden and violent injury from which he died ; and
Whereas, the death resulted in great loss to his mother, Mrs. Mont
Gilbert, for which there is no recourse at law against the hospital inas-
much as it is an agency of the State and there is no other means by
which Mrs. Mont Gilbert can be partially compensated for the death of
her son and suffering occasioned her; Now, Therefore
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated from the general fund of the State
treasury the sum of seventy-five hundred dollars to be paid Mrs. Mont
Gilbert on warrant of the Comptroller drawn on the State Treasurer
as compensation for her loss caused by one of the servants of the State.
