Chap. 372.-An ACT to amend Chapter 280, as amended, of the Acts of Assembly
of 1932, approved March 24, 1932, and being the charter of the city of Alexan-
dria, Virginia, by aan a new section numbered 16-d relating to a clerk
other employees of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and their

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That chapter two hundred eighty, as amended, of the Acts of
Assembly of nineteen hundred thirty-two, approved March twenty-four,
nineteen hundred thirty-two and being the charter of the city of Alexan-
dria, Virginia, be amended by adding a new section, numbered sixteen-d
as follows:
Section 16-d. Clerk and other employees of the juvenile and domes-
tic relations court; their powers and duties.—The judge of the juvenile
and domestic relations court elected by the people shall have the power
conferred or imposed by general law upon judges of juvenile and domestic
relations courts appointed or elected by the governing bodies of cities to
appoint a clerk, a bailiff, probation officers and other employees for the
proper conduct of the court, who shall hold office during the pleasure
of the judge, and who shall have the powers and duties conferred or
imposed by the general law, and in addition thereto, when such pertains
or is incidental to the business of the court and when so authorized by the
judge, the clerk and any deputy clerk may issue warrants and all other
process, may admit to bail and sign releases, commitments and all other
process, may recognize witnesses or other persons for appearance, and
shall likewise have the powers of a justice of the peace.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
