Chap. 276.—An ACT to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a new section
numbered 148-a, providing for the appointment of additional clerks for votin
places in certain cities. (H 183]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a new
section thereto numbered one hundred forty-eight-a as follows:
Section 148-a. The electoral board of any city containing more
than one hundred ninety thousand population according to the
last United States census may at any time appoint an additional
clerk or clerks for any voting place in the city when the board
deems an additional clerk or clerks necessary to facilitate voting
at such place in any general, primary or special election. The
qualifications of such clerk or clerks shall be the same as those
prescribed for clerks required by law to be appointed for holding
general, primary or special elections. There shall be administered
to the additional clerk or clerks by the judges of election, or either
of them, or by the officer swearing the judges, the same oath as
that taken by the judges. The additional clerk or clerks shall receive
the same compensation for their services as is prescribed by law
for clerks required to be appointed for holding such elections, to
be paid out of the treasury of such city.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its
passage.
