Chap. 206.—An ACT to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a new section
thereto numbered 1945-a relating to juvenile and domestic relations courts in
cities containing more than one hundred and ninety thousand population
according to the last United States census and providing for associate judges
of said courts. [H 367

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding thereto
a new section, numbered nineteen hundred forty-five-a as follows:
Section 1945-a. That the provisions of section nineteen hun-
dred and forty-five of the Code of Virginia shall not apply to
the establishment of a juvenile and domestic relations court in
a city containing more than one hundred and ninety thousand
population according to the last United States census when such
a court is established by the charter of said city. There shall be an
associate judge of such court to assist the judge thereof in the
exercise of the powers and jurisdiction conferred on such court and
in performing the duties thereof. All of the provisions of said
charter concerning the qualifications, appointment and removal of
the judge of the said court, his term of office and filling a vacancy
therein, shall apply in all respects to the associate judge. The
salary of the associate judge shall be fixed and paid in the same
manner as the salary of the judge is fixed and paid. Appeals from
the judgments of the associate judge shall lie to the same courts
under the same circumstances and conditions as are provided in
said charter for appeals from such court.
2. This act shall become effective on and after the first Tuesday
in September, nineteen hundred forty-eight.
