Chap. 16.—An ACT to validate and provide for the legal effect of certain records
in the offices of the clerks of courts of certain cities. [H 50]

Whereas, the Corporation Court of the city of Norfolk, acting
pursuant to section thirty-three hundred ninety-five and section
thirty-three hundred ninety-six of the Code of Virginia as amended,
appointed a committee to inquire into the necessity for an improved
system of general indexing to the judgment lien dockets theretofore
kept by the clerk of the said court, and said court, acting upon the
report of said committee that such work was needed, authorized and
directed the committee to make a written contract with some respon-
sible and experienced person or persons for the installing of said
work, and approved the contract made by said committee pursuant
to said authorization and direction, all by appropriate orders duly
entered by said court; and
Whereas, pursuant to said contract all unsatisfied judgments
docketed in said clerk’s office from January two, nineteen hundred
seventeen to July twenty-two, nineteen hundred forty-seven both
dates inclusive which were contained in judgment lien docket and
execution books numbered fifteen to thirty-two A both inclusive of
said clerk’s office have been re-indexed in four books known as
“General Index to Judgment Lien Docket and Execution Books”
designated “A-D”, “E-K”, “L-R” and “S-Z” respectively, in which
said four books the clerk of said court has and will index all judg-
ments docketed on and after. July twenty-three, nineteen hundred
forty-seven; Now, Therefore
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. The “General Index to Judgment Lien Docket and Execu-
tion Books” designated “A-D”, “E-K”, “L-R” and “S-Z”, respec-
tively, in the office of the clerk of the Corporation Court of the city
of Norfolk, Virginia is hereby validated, and is and shall be, for
all purposes whatever the legal record of judgments docketed as
provided by law in the office of the clerk of the Corporation Court
of the city of Norfolk. Virginia, for the period beginning January
two, nineteen hundred seventeen.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
