Chap. 4.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 16A of Chapter 57 of the Acts of
Assembly of 1940, approved February 20, 1940, which provided a new charter
for the town of Wise, the section relating to who eligible to appointment for

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That section sixteen of chapter fifty-seven of the Acts of As-
sembly of nineteen hundred forty, approved February twenty, nine-
teen hundred forty, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:

Section 16A.. Who shall be eligible to appointment as town treasur-
er, town sergeant and town clerk.—No member of the Town Council, or
one who is elected to such office of Town Council, shall be eligible to ap-
pointment or election to the office of town treasurer, town sergeant, or
town clerk, during the period for which he has been elected. Such ap-
pointments as town treasurer and town clerk must be made from resi-
dents of the town, who have been residents for at least one year prior to
such appointments. ,
