of the Acts of Assembly of 1922, approved March 27, 1922, relating to special

Approved March 26, 1946
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section three, as amended, of chapter four hundred eighty-
three of the Acts of Assembly of nineteen hundred twenty-two, approved
March twenty-seven, nineteen hundred twenty-two, be amended and re-
enacted, as follows:
Section 3. Every special justice appointed under this act shall re-
ceive the fees prescribed by law for justices of the peace, or in lieu there-
of, he shall receive out of the treasury of the city or county for which he
is appointed such salary as the council or other governing body of the
city or the board of supervisors of such county may prescribe, in which
latter event all such fees, when collected, shall be accounted for and paid
by him into the treasury of said city or county, as the case may be, on or
before the tenth day of each month; provided, however, that every such
special justice for a city having a population of less than twenty-five
thousand, and more than twenty thousand as shown by the last preceding
United States census, shall be entitled to receive the fees prescribed by
law for justices of the peace, and in addition thereto, shall receive out
of the treasury of the city for which he is appointed such salary as the
council or other governing body may prescribe.
The Commonwealth shall reimburse such cities annually at the end
of each fiscal year one-half of the difference between the salaries paid
such special justice and the fees accounted for and paid by him into the
treasury of such city during each such year. The reimbursement pro-
vided for above, shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of funds ap-
propriated out of the general appropriation act for criminal costs, on
warrants of the Comptroller, issued upon vouchers approved and signed
by the State Commissioner of Public Welfare or by such person as may
be designated by said Commissioner.
