Chap. 116.—An ACT to amend Chapter 247 of the Acts of Assembly of 1930, ap-
proved March 24, 1930, cited as “The Game, Inland Fish and Dog Code of Vir-
ginia’, by adding a new section numbered 48-a, relating to bounties on certain
animals. [H B 240]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That chapter two hundred forty-seven of the Acts of Assembly
of nineteen hundred thirty, cited as “The Game, Inland Fish and Dog
Code of Virginia”, approved March twenty-four, nineteen hundred thirty,
be amended by adding a new section numbered forty-eight-a, as follows:
Section 48-a. In addition to any other bounties authorized to be
paid, the governing body of any county may pay out of the dog license
fund of the county, or other available county funds, not exceeding fifty
cents for each skunk or groundhog killed in the county; provided that
the provisions of the section shall not apply in any county unless it be
adopted by formal resolution of the governing body thereof, duly entered
in the minute book.
The governing body may prescribe the conditions to be met and evi-
dence to be submitted before any person shall be paid any bounty on any
such animal killed in the county, and may designate the official of such
county to pass upon claims, for any such bounty. The official designated
to pass upon such claims, if satisfied that the conditions prescribed and
evidence required have been met and submitted, shall issue an order on
the county treasurer in favor of the applicant for the specified amount,
naming the animals and number of each species ; the treasurer shall honor
same upon presentation and pay it from, and charge it to, the dog license
fund or general fund of the county, respectively, whichever be named
by the governing body of the county as the fund from which such claims
are to be paid. Proper records shall be maintained of claims submitted,
orders issued, and payments made hereunder.
