Chap. 42.—An ACT to amend Chapter 16 of the Acts of Assembly of 1924, approved
February 13, 1924, providing a new charter for the town of Edinburg, by adding
a new section numbered 4-a making certain changes as to selection of certain
officers of the town. [S 96]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia :
1. That chapter sixteen of the Acts of Assembly of nineteen hundred
twenty-four, approved February thirteen, nineteen hundred twenty-four,
be amended by adding thereto a new section numbered four-a, as follows:
Section 4-a. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection thirty-
eight (38) of section four of the charter of the town the treasurer and
sergeant shall be elected by the council on the first day of September fol-
lowing the regular municipal election and organization of the council, or
as soon thereafter as is practicable, to hold office for two years, or at the
pleasure of the council. Any vacancy existing in either of these offices
at the time this section becomes effective, or thereafter occurring, shall
be filled by the council for the unexpired term.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
