Chap. 298.—An ACT to authorize the governing bodies of certain counties to ac-
quire by condemnation or otherwise, lands within the county for the establishment
of parks, play-grounds, or other recreational facilites, and to prescribe the pro-
cedure in case of condemnation. [H 365]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. The governing body of any county having a population in excess
of one thousand a square mile as shown by the last preceding United
States census, is hereby authorized to acquire by gift, purchase, con-
demnation or otherwise, such land within the county as the governing
body deems necessary or desirable for the establishment of parks, play-
grounds or other recreational facilities.
When it becomes necessary to acquire any such land by the exercise
of eminent domain, the procedure shall be, as far as practicable, in con-
formity with the provisions of chapter one hundred seventy-six of the
Code of Virginia.
